While you probably want good effects, it’s important to start slow. That’s because kratom affects everyone differently and there are some potential side effects you want to avoid (more on those later!).

Before specific dosing guidelines, know that smaller kratom doses are typically associated with more energetic effects, while relaxation kicks in at higher doses. Still, starting slow will help you avoid side effects and tolerances while getting accustomed to the benefits. 

As a brand new kratom user, especially if you aren’t acclimated to similar substances, it’s best to start at 1.5-2 grams. This is small but should provide effects for most people. That being said, if you are exceptionally receptive to substances like alcohol or caffeine, you can try starting with a single gram. 

While we recommend using a scale for accurate dosing, half a teaspoon is generally around 1-1.5 grams. 

  1. Increase Dose Slowly 

Even if you don’t get the effects you want from your initial dose, don’t suddenly jump up to 6+ grams. That can lead to a bad time. Instead, make sure you increase your dose slowly. We suggest increasing by .75 grams or so each attempt. 

Also, make sure you wait at least 4 hours between doses to get good effects, or until the next day for complete results.

  1. Be Aware of Tolerance

As a new kratom user, your kratom tolerance is low or nonexistent. It’s best to keep it that way as long as possible. Not only will it reduce the risk of side effects, but it will also be cheaper because you’ll get better effects from a lower dose. 

Here are some ways you can keep kratom tolerance low:

  • Take kratom only 1-2 times per day
  • Avoid redosing within 4 hours
